Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy

Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP)

Who gets the therapy the horse or the human?

EFP is a different way of providing therapy to individuals and groups outside of the counseling office, using trained and licensed therapists, horse/equine specialist, and you guessed it, horses. The horse fills a special role in this process, often times being the therapist, and the humans become the co-therapist. Due to the special nature of the horse and it's herd mentality we have learned new ways of interacting, which you may learn more about in the following pages.

Riverhorse

Riverhorse, itself is an organization of mental health professionals who specialize in the adjunct therapy of Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP). As an experiential approach to psychotherapy, EFP puts humans and equines together in a variety of settings. The process includes all aspects of the horse, with interactions such as haltering, leading, grooming, petting, etc., guided by trained mental health professionals and an equine specialist.
